Can I use white vinegar for pickling?

When pickling, does it make a difference
using apple cider vinegar versus white vinegar?

Hi, Sharon!  I just found your site last night.  Great timing to because produce was spilling over the counters, waiting be canned!  I just have a quick question.

When pickling, does it make a difference using apple cider vinegar versus white vinegar?

I had heard the white is great for cleaning, but not for consumption, but my dill pickle recipe calls for white.
Thanks!

Hi Rachel,

Yes you may use white vinegar..  The vinegar needs to be a 5% acidity.  Usually that is what is available, it should be written on the jar.

Cider vinegar and white vinegar will have different tastes. That is why some recipes call for white and some for cider.
