Canning Prepared Buffalo Wing Sauce

by Elise
(Williamstown, PA)

Is it possible to can a prepared buffalo hot wing sauce. I developed my own combination of Franks red hot sauce, butter, vinegar and dry ranch dressing mix.

I'd like to jar this prepared sauce to give as Christmas gifts. What canning process can be used with the butter and dry ranch dressing mix. I usually freeze batches, but for gifts, jars would be better.

My first reaction to this was Yum!

If a product is high enough in acid it can go into a water bath canner. It has vinegar so I wondered if it would be acidic enough or if you'd still need to pressure can it.

I was going to recommend that you contact your local extension with the amounts of ingredients and see if they can tell you if it has enough acidity with the vinegar.

Unfortunately it is not considered safe to can anything with any dairy products. So my inclination is that it is not safe to can this.

It sounds like a great Christmas gift though!
