What's New?

It's official. Summer is over and fall is full swing. We went to our annual Apple Fest here in a local town. A fun weekend of booths and junk food, rides and apples! While there the two most impressive things to my boys were the rock climbing wall the local National Guard brought, and the bull riding machine.

The bulk of my tomatoes never did ripen up fully. I had enough to can 7 quarts of canned tomatoes and 9 pints of tomato sauce. I have a tray full getting ripe in the window sill and there are probably another canner load on the vines. I'm still hoping for an Indian summer to come and ripen the tons of green tomatoes on the vine... but we'll see.

I've shared some family adventures at Simply-Sharon.com. Come and join me there. I'd love to hear from you. Please leave a comment and let me know you stopped by.

Hunting season is upon us. After apples this week and next, I'll be busy canning meat.

Recipe of the Month

I may not get to make much of this with my tomato crop this year but I thought I'd share an easy way to make homemade tomato soup using home canned tomatoes.

Warning... this is rich and creamy!

This recipe is for eating now! This is not a safe recipe for canning. Milk products are not safe to can for storage on your shelf. You could freeze it... but please do not put this through your canner and expect it to store safely!

Coming Soon

OK So last month I told you about my up and coming recipe book of recipes using home canned wild meat. It is still in the up and coming mode! I must explain.

I tend to be a non measuring type of cook. Toss in a bit of this and a shake of that. I am remaking all these recipes and actually measuring how much my "bits" and "shakes" amount to. This process is taking a bit longer than I thought and.... I thought of a couple more recipes that I'd like to add for you.

So keep hanging on! I'll get er done. I think you'll be happy with the results.

In the mean time...

Hunting season is coming up for us. If you are a hunting family check out how to can venison.

And if you are not a hunter or are considering learning about hunting... Check out this video.

The Family Heritage of Hunting.

Of course it is great for the hunters among us as well.
