Hello to all. Here is your loooong overdue Simply Canning and More newsletter. ( I told you I would not fill your inbox with junk!)
This has been a busy few months for us. A visit home from my soldier son was the highlight. I'm also pleased to introduce HomeschoolBoys.com.. This is my new baby website. I've got lots more information to add. Take a look and please let me know what you think.
What if?
Are you worried? Do you watch the news and wonder what is in store for the tomorrows of your life and your children's lives? I don't get too political on my site or in my newsletters and I don't intend to now either. However, I can't help but wonder what in the world is going on when I watch the news.
Something has changed in me in the last few years. I've always been one to be on the self reliant side. I like it that our family does things for ourselves. Lately however it is more. I can't help but feel I should at least mention it to all of you. I'm guessing that many of you are having the same thoughts.
I find myself walking around the house doing my daily tasks and all of a sudden this thought will pop into my mind. "What if?" What if I could not get to the store this week, this month? What if we ran out of toothpaste and there was no more to be had? What if I could not buy tortilla chips anymore? What if I could not flip that switch and have the lights come on?
I do some simple household task ... and wonder, what if?
Many of these things have a solution and are not life altering. It would be sad but...we could certainly live without tortilla chips! (Or I'll bet I could figure out a way to make my own.)
However, how would you handle not getting to the store at all? What if the electricity were cut off? What if gas goes up to 5 dollars a gallon.... or more?
What are your what ifs?
Here is something you can do.
Spring is almost here. Spring weather in Colorado is very unpredictable, we often get snow in April, so I am a long way from planting yet but I am planning our garden already. Are you? I'd like to encourage everyone to plant big this year.
Learn to grow different things like herbs. Do you know how easy oregano is to grow? What if you couldn't get oregano at the store? Not a problem you'd still have spaghetti sauce with your home grown tomatoes, garden oregano and canned venison. Oh, stock up on the spaghetti noodles or learn to make your own! :0)
Get Canning Supplies Now.
Speaking of stocking up. I'd also suggest you stock up on canning lids.
.. and here is another what if. What if you could not get canning lids anymore. I know our stores usually run out sometime mid-season. We have an Ace Hardware that stays somewhat consistent in having canning supplies on hand but ... what if? Consider these tattler lids. I've tried them and like them.
