What's New?
I am in full gardening mode now. I've been shelling
peas... my goodness is that ever tedious. But oh so worth it.
I love fresh peas on my salads.
Most of our corn is now hip high and I am looking forward to corn on
the cob.
Our tomatoes seem to be growing really slow.... But I think I say that
every year. We have cool nights and a late frost so I am always
impatient. But I think we'll be fine.
I'll be getting cherries this week and making Cherry
Rhubarb Pie Filling. I made that for the first time
last year and it is so good. The man at the orchard suggested
the combination and I am so glad I tried it.
Recipe of the Month

Take a Rhubarb Crisp recipe, substitute cherries for half the
rhubarb... Mmmm Mmmm Good!
Delicious with vanilla Ice Cream. Schwan's anyone?
Sharon Recommends
Last
month Sharon from
Memo's Kitchen sent me one of her
ladles to try out.
She
figured I might like it as a canning tool...She was right.
I've used it to make jam several times. The jam pours so nicely from
the corners of the scoop. With little to no dripping I found
I didn't really need a canning funnel.
You might want to check it out. It's called a Soup Saver
Scoop.
Canning Tip
Start
thinking now about Christmas. During canning season you can
create some jarred goodies to give away. Then all summer
watch
for creative containers and other items to include in your gift.
Yard Sales and Thrift stores are always full of baskets,
wooden
boxes, bags.
For a little girl you could make some
strawberry jam and watch for Strawberry Shortcake accessories.
Add some crackers and wrap it all up in a cute little pink
tote bag.
Site Updates
I've started adding pages on how to freeze foods. I'll be
