What's New?

The green beans are exploding in my garden! I got a good start on canning green beans and beets this past week. Started dehydrating too! Dried peppers and zucchini.

I'll be posting my own personal preserving updates each week at my blog SimplySharon. Come and join me there. I'd love to hear from you. Please leave a comment and let me know you stopped by.

Recipe of the Month

I am a big bargain hunter. This past month my husband and I went to an auction and came home with a truck load. In one of the boxes that I purchased for a dollar I found Mirro Pressure Cooker! It is the small 4 quart pot so it barely will hold enough for my family's supper. But for a dollar I'm not complaining!

I've been using my pressure canner for years but not had too much experience with a pressure cooker.... I love it! I've tried out several things with my canned venison and elk and they turned out pretty good.

Here is a pressure cooker beef stew recipe that we enjoyed. (Of course I substituted our home canned elk.)

Canning Tip

Just a reminder it is the time of year to get your gauges checked on your pressure canners. This will assure that your gauge is accurate and should be done yearly. Contact your local extension service to see if and when they will do this and if there is a charge.

Each year our service hosts a free gauge check session at the Ace Hardware store. You might contact your hardware store and see if they will be having one soon.
